Yes! It is certainly possible to register for just the Technical Routine or just the Free Routine. You can select this in the registration form. It is of course also possible to register for both the Technical Routine and the Free Routine.
What is the difference between the Fryslân Open and the Dutch Open Championship?
Clubs that are members of the KNZB automatically participate (provided that a starting number has been entered for each participant) in both the Fryslân Open and the Dutch Open Championship. The ranking of the Open Dutch Championship is a so-called “cleaned up” ranking that only includes participants from clubs that are registered/members of the KNZB. The general classification of Fryslân Open is the total of all participants in each separate category.
Does the KNZB number have to be entered?
The KNZB number must only be completed by Dutch clubs and associations that want to participate in the Open Dutch Masters Championship (in addition to the Fryslân Open competition). The participant will only participate in the Fryslân Open competition if the KNZB number is left blank.
What elements are swum in the Technical Routine?
During the technical routines, the World Aquatics elements (02-2026) as described in the accompanying document are swum: FINA _Required-Elements_Technical-Routines_Masters
The World Aquatics regulations for Artistic Swimming for Masters can be found in chapter 6.8. The specific elements are described in the paragraphs 6.9.2.1 – 6.9.4.3.4
The fourth element (Travelling Ballet Leg Combination) may be replaced by the element as defined in the European Aquatics Regulations: Flamingo – From a Back layout a Bent knee back layout position is assumed.
Do elements in the Technical Routine have to be swum in a fixed order?
No, the order of the elements to be performed is not fixed. Associations/Participants are free to determine the order of the elements themselves.
Is a black swimsuit and white swim cap required during the Technical Routine?
During the Technical Routine there is no obligation to wear a black swimsuit and white swim cap. Wearing a so-called “show” swimsuit with a matching hair cap and gelatin is therefore permitted. This applies to both the Fryslân Open and the Dutch Championships.
Do reserves also receive a medal?
Participants who are listed as reserves and did not swim will also receive a Fryslân Open medal starting in the 2026 edition. This will, of course, only be awarded if the duet, team, or combination actually finished in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in the rankings.
